Networking Projects

I'm undergoing training in a government institution in networking. I have
to submit a project in my college on the same subject after the completion
of my training period. The problem is that my instructor doesn't know much
about the stuff other than working on Packet Tracer and wants me to
'implement some of the routing protocols' on Packet Tracer and present it
as a project.
It's lame and I can't present it in my college. I told him about that but
the guy's unwilling to work on anything other than Packet Tracer. I talked
with his seniors about this thing but it didn't help.
Could you please give me some suggestions about the things that I could
work on? My training deals with networking and the peripherals that are
used in networking. It doesn't involve any programming (other than the
Cisco IOS shell), but the suggestions involving some sort of programming
would be nice.
I'm not asking for any help in developing the project. I have read some
other questions regarding the same topic but none of them answers what I
require.
